MTV today announced new cast members and the season-two start of production for “The Shannara Chronicles.”  New cast includes Vanessa Morgan (“Finding Carter”), Malese Jow (“The Flash”), Gentry White (“UnReal”), Caroline Chikezie (Everly) and Desmond Chiam (“NCIS: Los Angeles”).  Production is underway in New Zealand.

“The Shannara Chronicles” was written and created for television by and executive produced by Al Gough and Miles Millar.  Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Terry Brooks, and Dan Farah, of Farah Films, also serve as executive producers. MTV is producing with Sonar Entertainment, which is also distributing the series worldwide.

A year after the events of last season, The Four Lands is in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight. After reuniting with Eretria, Wil and Mareth seek out Allanon, only to learn that the Druid’s former protégé, Bandon, is on a mission to resurrect a creature of darkest evil: The Warlock Lord. Together, our heroes must band together to take down The Crimson and prevent Bandon from unleashing an even greater threat upon the Four Lands, before it’s too late.

“The Shannara Chronicles” stars, and series regulars, Austin Butler (Wil), Ivana Baquero (Eretria), Manu Bennett (Allanon), Aaron Jakubenko (Ander) and Marcus Vanco (Bandon) will return for the second season.

Vanessa Morgan will portray Lyria, a beautiful and mysterious, young woman who is romantically linked to Eretria.

This role marks her return to MTV where she played Bird for two seasons on “Finding Carter.”  Vanessa is most known for her series-leading role on Disney’s hit, “My Babysitter’s a Vampire.” She played a young Halle Berry in the Golden Globe-nominated Frankie & Alice and just wrapped a lead role in the independent drama PIMP from director Christine Crokos.  She is represented by UTA and managed by Vincent Cirrincione Associates.

Malese Jow will play Mareth, a volatile and unpredictable young woman with magical abilities.  Sharp, brash and independent to a fault, Mareth gets what she wants on her own terms and by any means necessary.

Jow is best known for her recurring roles as Linda Park and alter ego Dr. Light on The CW’s “The Flash,” as Anna in “The Vampire Diaries,” and as a series regular on “Star-Crossed.” Recent credits include The CW Seed’s musical web series “How to Make a Vampire,” Fullscreen’s “Filthy Preppy Teen$,” and CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles.” She also guest starred in the first season of MTV’s “Sweet Vicious.”  She is a lead in the upcoming Lifetime film “Sister of the Groom.”  Jow is represented by Authentic Talent & Literary Management and McKuin Frankel Whitehead LLP.

Gentry White will play Garet – a skilled, sly, and charismatic bounty hunter known throughout the Four Lands as “The Weapons Master.” Wise-cracking and virile with a roguish charm, the only thing Garet likes more than money is a good fight.

White is best known for his role as Romeo on season two of Lifetime’s Hit Show “UnReal.” White can also be seen on AMC's “TURN: Washington Spies” as the character Billy Lee, who is George Washington’s slave and right hand man.  White also had roles in Furious 7 and the Netflix Original Film XOXO.  He is represented by Gersh, Luber Roklin and Jackoway Tyerman.

Caroline Chikezie will portray Queen Tamlin – the powerful and cunning Queen of Leah, the only human Kingdom in the Four Lands. A ruthless weapons manufacturer with a strategic mind and a talent for manipulating people, Tamlin uses her royal clout to solidify a political alliance with the Elves.

Chikezie was recently seen opposite Salma Hayek in Everly for director Joe Lynch, and just wrapped Joe’s upcoming feature Mayhem, where she stars opposite Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”).  Caroline will next be seen in the title role of the miniseries “The Governor,” which she shot in Nigeria.  After roles in “Holby City,” “Casualty,” and the award-winning British film Babymother, Chikezie next played Sasha Williams in the UK hit series “As If” for three seasons, and then went on to wider fame in her regular role as Elaine Hardy in “Footballer's Wives.” Other television work includes “Torchwood” and “Supernatural.”  In film, Chikezie starred in the movie Eragon, as Charlize Theron’s nemesis in Aeon Flux, as a hardworking young woman in Breaking and Entering with Jude Law, and a detective in The Sweeney opposite Ray Winstone and Damian Lewis.  She is represented by Luber Roklin and Paradigm Talent Agency.

Desmond Chiam will play General Riga, a once revered General in the Eventine's army, Riga is now the leader of an extremist group of Elvin soldiers known as The Crimson. After watching his people slaughtered in the War of the Races, and fighting the Dagda Mor in the War of the Forbidding, Riga became convinced that the source of all problems in the Four Lands was neither good or evil, but magic itself. In response, Riga has led his troops on a campaign of terror across the Four Lands, sewing discord in an effort to root out magic and destroy the Druid Order once and for all. Riga is a cold and cunning tactician, a life-long soldier whose mind for strategy is eclipsed only by his prowess with a sword. He thinks fast, acts decisively and shows no mercy.

Chiam is an actor and writer.  His recent acting credits include “NCIS”, “Bones” and “Con Man” in the US as well as the Australian series, “Offspring”, “Better Man” and “Neighbours.”  He just finished shooting a DISNEY feature, with details to yet be announced.  Super fit, and a sports enthusiast, some of Chiam’s special skills include professional breakdancing and martial arts.  Desmond was the Singapore Cleo Bachelor of the Year in 2011.  He holds a Law Degree with Honors from the University of Melbourne, and was one of the top three graduates from the Masters in Screenwriting program at the University of Southern California.  He is represented by Active Artists Management and Rough Diamond Management.
